What is broadband?
|
| |
Broadband Internet access, often shortened to "broadband
Internet" or simply "broadband", is a high
data-transmission rate internet connection.
DSL and
cable modem, both popular consumer broadband technologies,
are typically capable of transmitting 512
kilobits per second (kbps) or more, with a broadband enabled
connection; approximately nine to ten times the speed of a modem
using a standard
digital telephone line.
In the UK, the broadband market is opening up considerably
and broadband technologies are allowing typical connection
speeds of 1mb, 2mb and 4mb with advances in technology now
promising 24mb broadband on some networks in the near future!
